Flaviar Whiskey Tasting Box

What is Flaviar?: Flaviar is a monthly subscription box that sends out spirits and liquors. Each box will include three tasting vials (45mL) of a premium liquor, including Whiskey, Rum, Gin, Cognac, Bourbon, Tequila, and/or Vodka. The box currently ships to all of the EU and the US (excluding Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah).

How Much is Flaviar?: Currently the Flaviar website shows as $39.99 a month ($24.99 for the first month), but I believe the price is going down $18.99 for the first month and $24.99 after.

Flaviar comes from Slovenia, so it does take a little while to get here, but I think it's such a cool thing that it's worth the wait. For reference, this box took just over three weeks, including the weekend and a holiday.

Each box will include tasting instructions as well as information on the liquor that you received. This box is the Whiskey Festivity, which is the fist box that everyone receives (I think, don't hold me to it!).

Since this box is a Whiskey box, I made sure to have an extra set of taste buds, as Whiskey is not a drink I tend to enjoy.

Whiskeys included:

Auchentoshan (12 Year Old) - Auchentoshan is triple distilled, and matured for over twelve years. This Lowland single malt Scotch has the tempting aroma of toasted almonds, carmelised toffee, and the signautre smooth, delicate, Auchentoshan taste.
This mostly tasted like caramel and dark chocolate to me. Even for being a 12-year-old, it was a bit too rough for my liking.

The Glenlivet (Founder's Reserve) - The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve has been matured in first fill American oak. This wood gives it a spicy vanilla kick.
This was definitely the best of the three, just because it was the smoothest. I loved the fruity hints and how it was a good combination of sweet and spicy.

Laphroaig (Quarter Cask) - For this whiskey, it was explained what a Quarter Cask is. A Quarter Cask is a smaller cask used to transport Whiskey. Due to it being smaller, it speeds up maturation. This whiskey is said to be six years old.
I'm sorry to those that enjoy this whiskey, but I cannot figure out how or why they would ever drink this. It's supremely rough and was nearly impossible to taste. It was, in my other taste buds' opinion, 'like licking a tree.'

Overall, I absolutely love the idea of this box. I think a bit of tweaking where you only get liquors you prefer would make it so much better. Not everyone enjoys every kind of liquor, so it would be nice to get the ones that you know you like. For the price, though, it is a great deal to get new kinds of liquors that you might not try or might not even be available in your area.

As always, let me know what you thought of this box in the comments, and let me know your favorite kind of liquor/spirit!
