Boxycharm vs. Ipsy vs. Birchbox - February 2015
I had a request that I compare Boxycharm and Birchbox for February, and I decided to throw in Ipsy as well. One thing to remember, though, is that Boxycharm does full-size products whereas Birchbox and Ipsy are mostly samples. Check out past Boxycharm, Birchbox, and Ipsy as well!
Out of the three, I definitely loved the Ipsy the most. Even though I picked out the Birchbox, I still loved everything in Ipsy whereas I wasn't 100% on Birchbox. Boxycharm failed terribly, even though it was ridiculously higher valued. Ipsy usually isn't my top pick, but this month it was obvious as to which one was the best. Let me know if you got any of these and let me know what you thought about it!
February's Boxycharm was valued at $97.70 and contained Mistura Beauty Solutions Complexion Corrector, ncLA Nail Lacquer, Modern Minerals Duo Fiber Mini Round Brush, Jing Ai Velvet Shine Lip Jewel, and Mullein & Sparrow Mini Facial Mask. Boxycharm does a points system, but it's almost impossible to get something worth a crap and in stock, so it's practically useless.
Overall, it wasn't terrible. There were some serious problems with the shades sent, but that is a problem that is consistent with Boxycharm recently. They aren't really catering to the skin tone you put on your profile, but instead just send whatever is thrown in it. I wasn't completely disappointed, but I would have definitely been much more pleased with a lighter complexion corrector and a pinker lip crayon. Also, the nail polish was 100% useless as it had gotten between the handle and the base and dried, so it will not open.
In February's Ipsy, the value was at a decent $36.35. Included was CARGO Cosmetics Essential Lip Gloss, MODELco Blush Cheek Powder, Composition No. 1 White, Perfume Oil By Joya, Luxie Rose Gold Large Angled Face Brush 504, and Robb Scheppy for'Tini Beauty. I also got a decent amount of points between sharing my bag, sharing my items, and reviewing my items. With Ipsy, you still need to do referrals to be able to get too many good products, but you still at least have the chance.
I loved how pink everything was in this bag. It went so great with Valentine's day and was just so pretty. Things were the right shade and easily used lightly or with a heavy hand. I have to admit that even the perfume wasn't bad, just way too expensive for me to fall in love with.
For February's Birchbox, I chose the 'Rent the Runway' curated box, so I specifically chose what was going to be in my box and got no surprises. This box was valued at $20.29. I received Fekkai Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo, Not Soap, Radio, derma e Anti-Wrinkle Vitamin A Glycolic Scrub, theBalm Read My Lips, and Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner. I also received $5 worth of points for reviews to use in Birchbox's shop.
I really loved this box. I actually chose it for the lip gloss and the eye liner, but I ended up loving the soap as well. Dry shampoo is useless for me in the winter, because my hair is super dry, but I will be able to use in now that it's starting to warm up some. The only thing I'm never a huge fan of is scrubs, but that's acceptable.
