Ipsy Glam Bag - August 2014

This month, Ipsy offered a chance to get an early look at your Glamroom by doing simple tasks, such as sharing on Facebook and subscribing to some Youtube channels. I did it, so I knew way before my bag arrived what I was getting. I wasn't disappointed by sneaking early, but part of me hates that I saw it so early and then they took so long to ship it out. Some months, it comes ridiculously quick. Other months, like this one, it took much longer.

For those that don't know, Ipsy is a monthly subscription priced at $10/month that sends 4-5 products plus a different makeup bag each month. They also have a referral program where you earn points for referring people to joining. Those points can also be earned for sharing your bag on Facebook and reviewing the products you receive. The nice part is they offer coupons for their monthly items and you can get the coupons for all products in all bags that month, just not yours. They have updated the rewards you get for using points and now will offer rewards for 500, 1000, and 1500 points. They still are terrible about updating what is offered and currently, not too much is in stock. All that is requires 1000 points, which is literally impossible to do (before they expire) if you don't have people subscribe under your link.

I love how pretty these envelopes are, but more and more problems are being reported about the envelopes being opened in transit and items/whole bags either 'falling out' or more likely, being stolen. I know it's their signature thing, but perhaps some stickier adhesive and some tape would make things much better!

The theme this month is Beauty Schooled, and is about school starting back soon (or in my area's case, started a while ago).

The bag this month is horrendous and looks like a pencil case that would have been used over ten years ago, but I suppose that's the point. It came flattened in transit and I'm still trying to make it pop back into shape. I probably won't use it, but it will be something nice to have for a giveaway!

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($5.50) - The major spoiler was that Urban Decay was going to be featured in bags, and it would either be the mascara or eyeliner. I have tried both products, so neither was more in my mind than the other. I received the mascara from UD during their promotion prior to release, so I already know that I love it. This probably will go into a swap/giveaway pile just because I have far too many mascaras already. It really is great, regardless.

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($6.46) - I received this in Birchbox last month, and didn't like it then either. It has a strong smell and I still don't let my hair get greasy enough to need dry shampoo as it doesn't have a tendency to do such unless I go numerous days without washing (impossible in the summer!). I already know of a few people that want it, so it's getting traded ASAP!

Dr. Brandt Pores No More ($11.25) - I've read almost 100% great things about this primer, so I was excited to see it. Alas, I just recently opened a primer and I would hate to let this dry out, so it will be put in the pile to try. That's got to be the biggest downside of getting sample boxes, that it's almost impossible to run out of some stuff! This is one of those things that I'm nervous about falling in love with, because it is rather pricey.

J.Cat Flying Solo Eye Shadow (Half Naked) ($2.99) - I love the color of this! It's impossible to describe but very much orangey/coppery/bronze. I love the color and love that it's so inexpensive. I can definitely see myself trying out more of the colors they offer...which is a lot!

Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo (Orange) ($5.50) - Oh my, what a name. I could see this being useful if it weren't made with ginger, but I honestly hate any and all things ginger. Honestly, I'll stick with my Baby Lips or my EOS before using this again.

Overall, this bag was worth $31.70, which is a decent value. I was very hopeful and somewhat let down by this bag. I think the other lip product and something besides the dry shampoo would have made this perfect for me. What all did everyone get with their Ipsy this month? What was the good, the bad, and the ugly? Let me know in the comments!
